Sorrow

We sit in here and wait,

Wait for the war to end,

The days and nights slowly pass,

No-one knows what goes on outside,

No-one knows if a loved one is dead or waiting, like us.

How long will we stay here?

When will we be discovered?

All we have is each other,

We are all strangers to one another,

Scared, restless and confused,

Waiting, thinking, crying.

The nights are becoming unbearable,

The days are the worst,

We sit, in silence, not knowing what to do,

Some are starving, too many bodies in one tiny room,

The boredom will send us mad,

Either that or the anticipation.

I can't stand to stay here any longer,

I sit close to the window and hear the screams,

I try to hide my fear,

Tears dissolve as they leave my eyes,

No-one must see,

No-one must see what awaits us,

The pain, the suffering, the sorrow.
