Wealth and Poverty

Of all the units studied, this might be the one that is closest to our everyday lives. All of us spend money, and simply buying a chocolate bar involves making an ethical decision. Although you may not feel rich, a 15 year old student in the UK probably get more in pocket money than the average worker receives in wages in the developing world. As such, your spending power really does make an impact on other people's lives.

This unit also looks at occupations, and when studying this unit you may well be involved in making important choices about A levels, leaving school or other options. Will you choose your career based on how much you'll earn, or the sort of work you're going to do? Are there things you would not do for any amount of money?

There is a great deal of overlap between the causes of poverty, concern for the poor and charity. In all three, it is possible to look at poverty in the UK or abroad, and this site does both. Do make sure you look in all three areas for information and resources - otherwise you might miss something!
