Problems with believing there is no God

Believing that there is no God does not provide easy answers to questions raised by suffering.  In 1993 a man walked into Dunblane school and killed 16 children and a teacher before turning the gun on himself.  The head teacher told the media that his response had been to pray.  He said that he did not believe in God, but that there seemed no other response - what else could he do?

If you don't believe in God, does that make suffering any easier? What comfort is it? If you don't believe in God, is there actually any point to life at all? We would all like to believe that we are good, moral people. If there is no God, where does our morality come from? What that means is, was that man wrong to go and shoot those children? We'd like to say so, but if there is no God, who says we're right and he's wrong?

We need God for good and evil to really exist. Without God there is no meaning, purpose or comfort in life.
