Violence

War, Peace and Human Rights

The unit on violence relates to all forms of violent and non-violent protest. As such, most of the 'practical responses' sections are relevant, as they include organisations that campaign about different issues. There are Christian organisations that campaign on a large number of issues:

Care is a Christian charity that campaigns about ethical issues from a Christian viewpoint. In particular, Care is interested in Sanctity of Life issues like abortion and euthanasia. They inform Christians through their publicataions and by visiting churches and Christian Unions. They encourage Christians to get actively involved by writing to their MPs, organising events and raising awareness.
An organisation committed to social change. This is a good example of what has been called 'Liberation Theology'
An organisation supporting the 'gospel of non-violence'

The most famous individual Christian to succeed with non-violent protest is Martin Luther King, who is seen as the founder of the Civil Rights Movement. Have a look at the exam questions section for more about MLK.
