Prejudice and Discrimination

Racism

Racism is an issue that some Christians care passionately about. The Bible seems to be very clear about issues of equality, yet Christian missionaries have in the past treated people of other races very badly. Last century in America, a mostly Christian white population supported segregation across many states. In this unit we'll look at how Martin Luther King's Christian beliefs motivated him to challenge racism.

Racism continues to be an issue in the UK. Areas of tension include immigration, as there is a need for foreign workers to support the British economy, but with rising unemployment jobs are becoming scarce. Discrimination on the basis of colour is still a problem, and Stephen Lawrence's murder highlighted institutional racism in the police force.

We also look at what is being done to promote equality and combat racism.
