Forgiveness

Prejudice and Discrimination

Forgiveness

'Forgiveness' can be taken as a stand-alone topic. However, it fits in well when looking at prejudice and discrimination. As a society, it is important to treat people fairly and equally, whatever their race, colour, gender, religion or level of ability. This idea of Justice is a great ideal, but in practice people's relationships break down and there is tension.

For example, between Protestants and Catholics in Ireland. Between Hutu and Tutsi in Rwanda. How do you move forward when there has been a history of discrimination and violence?

As well as talking about love, Jesus highlighted the importance of forgiveness. It was part of how he told his disciples to pray - God forgives you, you need to forgive other people.

In this unit, we will look at other teaching about forgiveness from the Bible and from churches, as well as finding out about inspiring examples of forgiveness in today's world.
