Amish Grace, 2010 (PG)- In 2006 a group of Amish schoolgirls were taken hostage and shot in their classroom. 10 girls were shot, and 5 died. The gunmen commited suicide. The emphasis on forgiveness and reconciliation in the response of the Amish community was widely discussed in the national media. The West Nickel Mines School was torn down, and a new one-room schoolhouse, the New Hope School, was built at another location.

Amish Grace is a television film that tells the story through a fictitious family. Although powerful, and covering a disturbing evebt. the film does not glorify violence - in fact the shooting itself is not shown - the film deals more with the characters' reactions to the tragedy, and their willingness to forgive the gunman.

The issues in the film aren't sugar-coated, although the style is of a television movie. The scenes where the community offer kindness and compassion to the killer’s widow are genuine and moving.
