Books about Genetics

There are many ethics texts that deal with theories and issues. The best of these are Vardy's Puzzle of Ethics and Bowie's Ethical Studies (make sure you get the much larger secon edition). Specifically looking at the right to a child, I'd recommend:

Book Rating/5 Cover

Engineering Genesis - A superb book, which can be dipped into but is worth taking the time to read. It is the fruit of the Science, Religion and Technology Project's Working Group Study on the Ethical of Genetic Engineering in Non-human Life Forms. It is balanced, detailed, written by genuine specialists in a range of fields. It gives case-studies, and a considered Christian response. Flawless.

Science and religion in schools - An excellent book The scope of the project was truly impressive, and the funding received has meant that the cost of the product is only £15 for the book and CD ROM. I really can't recommend this strongly enough. Have a look at some sample resources.

Brave New World - by Aldous Huxley - My favourite book, and a timeless classic. If you read this you will be asking deeper questions about the meaning of life, but a central theme is, if we could make life more pleasurable by using genetic engineering, should we? Read this book.
